During its 2005-2006 season, Festival Chamber Music began a three year commissioning project with Athena Adamopoulos to write three major works, two of which were to include bassoon and/or French horn. We presented the first of these works, a Quartet for Bassoon, Violin, Cello, and Piano, at our opening concert in October 2005. We are very proud that the work won the prestigious ASCAP award! On the opening concert of our 2006-2007 season, we presented the second work, a Quintet for French Horn, Violin, Viola, Cello, and Piano. We will conclude the commissioning project with a performance Ms. Adamopoulos’ Dance Suite for Oboe, Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano and Percussion on Thursday, October 11, 2007. At the completion of the commissioning project, Festival Chamber Music will produce a CD of all the works with the composer at the piano.
Festival Chamber Music is most grateful to the Greenwall Foundation and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for their generous support of this project.
